Tapping Primary School:
Igniting Creativity with Apple

Share:
Located in the Wanneroo Education Network, Tapping Primary School has revolutionised its curriculum by integrating technology into their teaching methods. Years ago, they introduced iPads as the primary learning device for their students - a decision that has since set the tone for their innovative approach to education.

The successful integration of Apple was facilitated by Solutions IT, a key player in the process. The company provided consistent on-site support, introducing new tools and systems while consulting with school leadership on the future role of technology within the institution.

Choosing the Right Device: Why iPad?

When it came to choosing a device, the school found the answer quite straightforward. Sue Zemke, the Digital Technologies Coordinator, said, “The most compelling aspect of the iPad was the vast array of educational apps. We saw early on that students had the ability to be really creative, and the choices were endless. They weren’t playing games, they were creating – and that was very important to us. We could instantly see the potential with iPad.”

With over 180,000 apps available, coupled with the advanced built-in technologies, iPad offered students an endless array of creative opportunities. From conducting research on birds to creating presentations using Book Creator, Keynote, or PowerPoint, the possibilities were truly limitless.

Managing the Devices: Efficiency with Jamf School

With over 300 iPads and 750 students, device management was a crucial aspect of the school’s technology plan. This challenge was addressed with the introduction of Jamf School, a system that allowed the school to track managed devices, users, and apps efficiently.

“Solutions IT introduced us to Jamf School which enables us to keep track of our devices. We can see their status quickly and easily, and identify issues for remediation,” says Sue.

Jamf School, combined with Apple’s shared iPad technology, ensured a personalised learning experience for each student while keeping their data separate and secure. This management solution freed up time for educators like Sue, allowing them to focus more on the students’ learning rather than technical issues.

“Now I spend only a fraction of my time in the comms room and it’s fantastic! It means I have way more time to teach.”

Engaged Learning: Unleashing Creativity with iPads

“iPad gives our students much more fun in gathering the information they need, and a much greater variety of ways to express themselves. They instinctively know what to do,” Sue added.

The adoption of iPads in Tapping Primary School has not only made learning more enjoyable for students but also given them a variety of ways to express their creativity. With iPad, students are given the freedom to choose how they respond to assignments, promoting a sense of ownership and engagement in their work.

Sue observed, “The students’ creativity is unleashed. We see it every day.”

The school’s successful journey with iPads for education, facilitated by Solutions IT and supported by professional learning from Apple, showcases the potential of technology in shaping the future of education. This case study serves as an example of how schools can leverage technology, specifically Apple solutions and iPads, to create engaging and creative learning environments.
